A man was issued an fine under the Wildfire Act for conducting an illegal burn on a property near Lumby last week.
On Friday, July 17th, 2026, just before 8 a.m., police assistance was requested by the Lumby Fire Department who had responded to a report of a fire on a rural property east of Lumby The owner was burning garbage and had lit the fire contrary to a ban that’s currently in place. Fire crews extinguished the burn and police issued the man an $1150 fine for failing to comply with fire restrictions. “It only takes a second for things to get out of control,” states Constable Chris Terleski, Media Relations Officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP. “Fire regulations are in place for very good reasons and need to be followed. Check with your municipal office and the provincial website for current restrictions. Be fire smart, use caution, and do your part to keep our community safe.”
