Police are investigating after finding a shotgun in the backseat of an impaired driver asleep at the wheel in Lumby yesterday.
On Wednesday, July 15th, 2026, shortly after 8 p.m., police received a report of a person passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle at the intersection of Birch Rd and Mabel Lake Rd in Lumby. As the responding officer approached the vehicle, they noticed what looked like the barrel of a long gun sticking out of the rear driver side window. The officer safely removed and secured the 12-gauge shotgun before waking the driver. The man showed signs of alcohol impairment and provided a breath sample that resulted in a “Warn” on a roadside screening device. In addition to potential firearms related offences, he was issued a 3-day roadside prohibition and his uninsured vehicle was towed and impounded. He was released from custody pending further investigation.
