Rotation Of The Earth Really Makes My Day!
I’m pleased to know that Trump was furious with the Supreme Courts decision on the tariffs he imposed on Canada and other countries was illegal and he has no authority to use the excuse of National Security to impose such tariff. This leaves the repayment of these funds he collected up in the air but none the less owed by their government and this leaves the American public paying again. He’s now imposing a world wide tariff of first was 10 percent and now its a 15 percent. But he sure isn’t happy with the Supreme Court! Trumps security people shot a young man who had in his possession a shot gun and a gas can at Key Largo. I guess freedom of expression has been taken away as well, thanks Trump!
Traditionally the long weekend in May has been the benchmark for planting the garden. Other considerations for some people’s planting schedule is based on the phases of the moon. Shifting gravitational pull has a profound affect on people, animals and plants. Moisture levels during the Full Moon and New Moon causes an increase of moisture in the soil which Is very beneficial when planting seed and bedding plants. Different phases of the moon affects some plants more than others and planting Calendars can be used to determine what to plant and when. It can also become more complicated if one includes Astrological components during these Moon phases. This combination of Moon Phase and Astrological components can deter harmful insects and other pests. There are four phases in the moon cycles each lasting about a week. This information is available in the Farmers Almanac, the following is a breakdown of what would be planted during the moons’ phases.
The New Moon in May is the 16th this year and is when the moisture content is higher in the soil and is ideal for planting Lettuce, Cabbage, Spinach, Celery, Broccoli and Cauliflower. New Moon I not visible in this stage.
The Waxing Moon is several days before a Full Moon and this is on the 23rd of May. This is a good time to plant Peppers, Tomatoes, Beans, Squash, Corn, and Annual Flowers.
The Full Moon at this time of year are May 1st ( a little too early to plant outside) and the 31st of May. This again is a time of high moisture in the soil. Planting suggestions for this phase is Flower Bulbs and Perennial Flowers, and seeds such as Carrots, Beets, Potatoes and Onions.
The Waning Moon is considered to be a good time to do other activities in the garden besides planting like mowing the lawn. Mowing the lawn during this phase will slow growth reducing the need to mow as often. This phase occurs on the ninth of May.
It is still too early to start most plants in the house yet but a good time to purchase your seeds do an inventory on the seeds you still have or have collected and the dates they should be started in the house.
Happy Gardening!
