Did you get a chance to see the Outhouse Races at the Oval Park this Sunday February 2? The weather held out for this fun event it wasn’t cold, windy, raining, or snowing, just a little slushy. It was a very nice winter day to get out of the house and have some fun that doesn’t cost anything.

To keep your hunger away, Jitter Beans served up some delicious hot dogs and smokies cooked on the BBQ, they also had some of their great chilli, coffee, and hot chocolate. This was all by donation with the proceeds going to the Lumby Youth Figure Skating Club, (this may not be their correct title)

What a blast watching the outhouses. There were 15 different outhouses, they all looked great.  Some of the outhouses got caught together on their turns which of course made the races more fun to watch. I heard someone say they should have outhouse races in the summer as well, but put wheels on them instead, who knows, it could be fun.

Being slushy made the area slippery, two different outhouses would race at the same time, some had a hard time turning the corner and crashed into the finish line pole, it’s okay don’t worry the pole was full of air. One of the outhouses toppled over but no one was hurt.

I remember when I was living in Kelowna and they had bathtub races; they were great entertainment as well. Who knew you could have so much fun with bathroom items that are used for cleaning your body, and for pooping.

I love going to things like this. I used to go to the car derby races in Kelowna once a month, I had a friend that drove in the “Powder Puff” competition, now that is a lot of fun to watch.

Winter doesn’t have to be blah and just staying indoors for those of us that don’t hit the slopes or ice skate or even go ice fishing. If you live in Lumby or surrounding areas, you can check the Lumby Valley Times and see what’s happening out there. Maybe even check out Facebook, or word of mouth, somewhere, someone has heard of some outdoor things you can do or watch for entertainment. So, instead of staying home doing nothing exciting put on your hat, gloves, coat, and boots if necessary and go outside and enjoy the things happening around you, a lot of it is free to do so you don’t have to worry about putting out your money especially when times are tough.

What ever you find to do out there, have fun.
