Spring Has Sprung And I’m So Excited I Wet My Plants!
True Spring, the Vernal Spring arrived as of this last Tuesday and I’m very impressed with the plants that are growing in the yard and of course the length of day and the wonderful sunshine we have received. The Crocuses, Daffodils, Tulips, Perennial Poppy and other delights are growing nicely as are the thousands of plants growing in the greenhouse. With the sun at a better angle and shinning ever longer I am pleased with the growth of all my plants. Unfortunately the news this evening has reported a fire on Creighton Valley road. There was no cause attached to it and hopefully it won’t be similar to a fire in Kelowna last week that had a backyard burner take out his neighbour’s garage. Be very aware and very prepared for any clean up fires that you wish to ignite. Fortunately we are supposed to get some rain come the middle of this week till at least the weekend. Hopefully that will be more than a drizzle and will accumulate as snow in the mountains.
Now is a good time to start seeds like Peppers, Cauliflower, Broccoli, and other members of this family. It is still way too early for plants like Squashes and Cucumber. These sprout very quickly and grow too rapidly to start indoors. Cucumbers are also not fond of transplanting so special care needs to be taken so you don’t want them to have grown too big. Some plants like peas and spinach are cold weather plants will be able to be planted outdoors very soon and I intend to start some outside before the end of the month. I have had spinach grow all winter in the greenhouse and it gets very cold in there so I know there will be no problem. I am delighted to see the sign up at Monashee Co-op for my course on container and small space gardening. Do check in to see the courses they are offering. They will be fun, educational and a great way to share the gardening experience.
As you all know by now I am not a computer literate person. Quite truthfully I think my computer has a personal problem with me. I have found a young woman who is willing to come and help me although the descriptions of some of my problems she says are not possible. Well I’ll show her! Recently I was given a demonstration of what Seri does when you lambaste this app with loud and persistent verbal abuse. She says calm down. I am not sure that telling a Red Head (or any other colour hair) to calm down is prudent when she’s in a full rant. I mentioned this to a friend and although I am not sure of the content of her tirade she was told that her rant was inappropriate. I just hope to get past personally apologizing to the lineup at the grocery store when the till goes down. As if I was standing too close.
Happy Gardening!
