The Lumby Air Races saw some great conditions for flying with dozens of wings in the air simultaneously over the community for the six days leading up to and during the Lumby Days weekend.
The Lumby Air Force society which hosts the event wishes to thank Lumby Days and the Regional District of the North Okanagan for the prize money, North Wing Aircraft and SRP Canada for donations, Advanced Designs, Hydro Concepts for powder coating the trophies, the Freedom Flyers Band, and all other volunteers who helped during the wrap up awards banquet and for the association’s parade entry commemorating the Lumby Air Forces 50th Anniversary in 2026. The winners of the event were, in the Paragliding category, first place winner Bill Goglin of Williams Lake, second place was Robin Taylor from Kelowna and 3rd Kaymin Johnson of Calgary.
In the Hang gliding category, the first place winner was Luc Mailloux of Vernon, Lumby’s Randy Rauck in second, and Rick Hines of Hamilton in 3rd place.
Overall the event included more than 20 participants from across BC, Alberta, Ontario, and Washington state as well as dozens more non-entrants from Australia, France, Mexico, Quebec, and Prince Edward Island. Many flights lasted more than 2 hours with one of the longest non-entrants being a 105-kilometre triangle during a 5-hour long flight reaching 9600 feet above sea level.
