My experience at the VJH

To the Editor,

I recently had knee replacement surgery at Vernon Jubilee Hospital and have been awed by the superb organization and quality of the process as well as by the professionalism of all members of the team.

All pre-operative questions and required tests are done and scheduled by phone and email prior to the surgery. Advice regarding pre and post operative care is sent by files via email.  Post operative equipment can be rented by the Red Cross ahead of time and any remaining questions can be answered easily by contacting the hospital.

This efficient process is what allows patients to enter hours, not days, before the surgery and to spend only one night in the hospital. Barely 20 hours after surgery, physiotherapists have patients up and moving so they can go home fully prepared to do what is necessary for a successful recovery.

Knee replacement surgery is major, but the excellent structure put in place and the proficiency of the surgeons, anaesthetists, physiotherapists, nurses, and other members of the team make patients feel secure in their recovery.

The post operative care offered by the physiotherapy department of Jubilee Hospital is first rate. The caring and knowledge of the therapists play a crucial role in motivating patients so they can do what is necessary to heal.

Overall, my experience has given me a renewed sense of confidence in our health care system.
