The Quesnel’s farm – near the entrance of Lumby – has remained in the  family for five generations.  Cleophas Quesnel and his wife Josephine settled in Lumby (then called Whitevalley) in 1890.  Cleophas arrived with a pocket full of money, purchasing several properties, establishing the White Valley Meat Market, partnering with Will Shields to establish Shields store in 1910 and establishing Lumby Sawmills.  Today, the farm continues to operate under the leadership of Cleophas’s descendants.

In 1996, Brian Matchett installed a new tin roof on the barn built by Cleophas in 1895.
