We have often heard it said that “ music is the universal language “. But, what importance does it have in the development of young children? A 2016 study from the University of Southern California found that music training accelerates brain maturation in children as young as 3 enhancing areas tied to language, movement, and problem solving.
Cognitively, music helps to enhance memory and pattern recognition. Emotionally, music can help soothe or energize children and helps to build strong parental and community bonds. Socially music in a group setting fosters cooperation and empathy as children sing and dance together. Physically, music helps to develop coordination and a general sense of well being.
Musical activities help to build auditory processing skills helping children to excel in math and reading. Music isn’t just play – it is brain building blocks that help to reinforce a strong foundation in a child’s healthy growth and development.
Learning music is like planting a seed, it takes time, patience and understanding.
