In 1980, Lorraine Crown and her team of Lumby volunteers set out to raise $5,000.00 to purchase a hydraulic rescue tool commonly known as the “Jaws of Life”. By 1981, it was the students at JW Inglis who raised the final $85.00 needed to purchase the life-saving equipment. The funds were raised through a hot dog sale and student Lisa Whitehead was chosen to present the final cheque to organizer Lorraine Crown. Over the years, Lumby firefighters have made good use of the Jaws of Life to free individuals trapped in vehicle wreckage.
