Men’s Shed Celebrity Comes To Lumby

The Lumby Men’s Shed was excited to host Doug Mackie when he came from Manitoba to meet with members recently.

Doug started the very first Men’s Shed in North America. He was 67 at the time when his daughter Lisa, from Saskatoon, discovered the concept during a chat with a woman from Australia. Inspired, Lisa called her father encouraging him to start a local shed which he did in Winnipeg in 2011. From there they have spread across Canada and the US.

Lumby now has its very own Men’s Shed Society. A Men’s Shed is a place for men to engage in various activities, enjoy camaraderie and socialize. It’s an organization designed by men, for men emphasizing a grassroots approach. The movement embodies the spirit of innovation and community. The Shedders will soon be looking for ways to assist individuals and groups in the community on small projects.

Come and meet some “Shedder” at Jitter Beans every Tuesday morning at 10:00. For more information check out our Facebook page or email: lumbymensshed@gmail.com.
