The Lumby MHA U18 Recreation team delivered a strong performance this past weekend at the Sicamous U18 Recreation Tournament. Despite missing players from the roster, the team displayed incredible grit and managed to battle all the way through to the semi-finals.
Lumby kicked off the tournament on Friday morning with a thrilling 5-4 victory over G. Vernon MHA. After losing to this team several times during the regular season, it was a major highlight for the team to finally secure a win against them. Earl Irwin (#10) and William Strobbe (#13) led the offensive charge; Irwin netted two goals, while Strobbe secured the game-winner in the third period. Kayden Moger (#21) also contributed to the scoreboard, supported by the consistent playmaking of Finley Baines (#19).
The momentum continued Saturday afternoon as Lumby dominated Fort St. John MHA with a commanding 7-2 win. Earl Irwin was unstoppable, recording a hat trick. William Strobbe added two more to his tournament total, while Jaxsin Macleod (#23) found the back of the net late in the second period.
Not every game came easily for the Lumby squad. Saturday morning was a hard-fought battle against Merritt MHA that ended in a narrow 4-3 loss. Despite the setback, William Strobbe, Atley Lishman (#11), and Noah Allen (#18) each scored to keep the game within reach until the final whistle.
The tournament concluded Sunday morning with a challenging matchup against Castlegar MHA. While Lumby was unable to break through Castlegar’s defence, finishing with a 5-0 loss, the team fought hard through a tough game.
Despite the challenges of a busy tournament schedule, the Lumby U18 team played with a level of determination and sportsmanship that truly defined their weekend.
