I was in Michaels in the beginning of July, and they had their Halloween stuff out already, they could have had the decorations out earlier, but we only went there in July. Every store I go into now that sells seasonal stuff has their shelves loaded with Halloween items. Don’t get me wrong, I love Halloween, and putting on a costume, I think it’s a lot of fun, however there is just something about buying Halloween things in the beginning of July. By the end of August or September in some stores you will see rows of Halloween and right across from that you will see Christmas items for sale. That I have a bit of a problem with. I can’t honestly think about buying Christmas items before Remembrance Day. Growing up, the stores would never think about putting Christmas stuff on their shelves before Remembrance Day, it was out of respect for the special day. Now, it is in every store that sells seasonal items, Halloween supplies, and Christmas supplies very early in the year!
What the heck happened to our country, when they put out Christmas decorations months before November 11, where did the respect go? My parents would be turning in their graves, we never even thought about decorating any part of our house with Christmas decorations before Remembrance Day.
I understand, the stores are competing with each other, and they all need to make a buck or two. People would still buy Christmas stuff after Remembrance Day.
I was in a store a few years ago, not only were they selling Christmas items at the beginning of October (they could have been selling it earlier, but I wasn’t in the store before then) but they also were playing Christmas music. I couldn’t handle listening to Christmas music in October, weeks before Halloween, so I left the store. Listening to Christmas music in October just doesn’t jive with me. That’s way too early to hear that music. I don’t start watching Christmas movies on TV until about a week away from Christmas.
Every year, the stores seem to get earlier and earlier with their holiday items coming out, July! Way too early! Don’t be surprised if they start putting their seasonal items out for Halloween, and Christmas in February, March, April. or May, they might even start in January! I would not like that at all, especially if they played the music as well.
Ah well, to each their own. I will buy my Christmas supplies if I need them after November 11, but not before.
