There are more than 14,000 clubs with about 270,000 members. Ralph Smedley, the founder of Toastmasters in 1924, noticed a lack of public speaking and communication skills amongst a group of young men at a meeting. He worked to create a club where members would learn to prepare and deliver speeches and learn to give constructive feedback. He stated: “Learning to give a speech is important, but almost equally so is learning to listen critically and analytically, and then to give the speaker the benefit.”
We do many other roles at our hour and a half meetings which are held in a spirit of support and camaraderie in our quest to become better speakers and communicators. We are always overjoyed to have guests who want to watch us in action and/or see if Toastmasters is for them.
We meet at the Lumby Museum at 7 PM, the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays of the month. For those that can’t make it, join us on Zoom. Contacts are: Marena-250-547-9572 (reneguy@shaw.ca) or Mike-250-547-9335 (mftakahashi@shaw.ca). For more information about Monashee Toastmasters:
