Boy, Someone Is Confused Out There

Welcome to Colleen’s Corner. What the heck, Mother Nature? A Couple of weeks ago I wrote about the snow on my car and said the sun was shining and was going to melt the snow off my car quickly which it did. This morning I woke up not only is my car covered in snow but so is my backyard! Are you confusing us with the eastern provinces? It’s mid-March for goodness sake. We should be slowing down on the snowfall, not building it up. And what about Okanagan Okie the little Marmot that said on February 2, 2026  in Vernon at the Allan Brooks Nature Centre, “he didn’t see his shadow”, said Victor Cumming, the mayor of Vernon. We were supposed to be saying good-bye to winter and hello Spring….

I guess this little guy is as confused as Mother Nature is right now.

It doesn’t look like spring at my place, in fact I heard the snow plows going by a couple of times, and between 4:00 and 4:35 am I swear I heard the low rumbling of snow thunder. Yes, I said snow thunder, it is a real thing. I heard it and saw it a couple of times when I was a kid. It’s actually called “thunder-snow”.  It’s quite similar to a rain thunderstorm except it happens with snow instead of rain, it’s pretty rare, but I swear I really heard it in the early hours this morning.

I am sure Mother Nature has her reasoning for why we are having so much snow now, maybe she feels guilty that she didn’t give us the snow early in December, January, or February which of course we need to help us not have huge fires across BC again this year. Hopefully it will be enough to prevent the large fires and drought.

The roads look a little slippery out there right now, so if you have to go anywhere today drive carefully, and remember the road signs might say “80 Kmh,” but you don’t have to drive that fast when the roads are bad, slow down and drive safely!
