MAC is excited to open up 2026 with a showing of the works of some of our outstanding members in the new Open show running from January 5th – February 6th 2026 at the Village Gallery

MAC has always been thrilled to see the works of our local Artists through the involvement of our members and community at large in MAC’s monthly shows and exhibitions and this first show is always a joy to see what our community has been busy creating in the past year as we move forward to a new year.

Let’s come together to celebrate the start of a vibrant and creative year.

Call for Youth Artists – Young at Art

Do you know a young artist?

The Monashee Arts Council (MAC) is seeking artists 18 and under who are passionate about the arts and eager to showcase their work.

Do you—or someone you know—love creating art? Our February exhibition is open to both 2-D and 3-D pieces, including drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, pottery, beading, wood carving, sewing, and weaving.

MAC hopes this show will inspire our talented local youth to get involved and share their creativity with the community. Exhibitors will have the chance to participate in a People’s Choice award and may also choose to sell their work.

We look forward to seeing the creativity of our youth on display at the Village Gallery!

MAC will be hosting a free hands on workshop on the basics of how to prepare your art to hang/display in a gallery setting on February 4th at the Lumby 50+ club hall (OAP) from 3:30-4:30pm so drop in at anytime. Learn the basics of how to attach hanging wire to your artwork, along with many other helpful pointers. This is a free workshop open to all interested in learning these skills.

Call for Artists – Magic of the Still Life

Still Life was once a way for the middle classes in the Netherlands in the 16th and 17th century, to depict their wealth in virtuosic paintings. Artists frequently emphasized life’s fragility, shaped by the reality that infant mortality and recurring plagues cut short even the lives of the most fortunate. Skulls, candles, and hourglasses—alongside flowers and ripe fruits and vegetables—served as enduring symbols of mortality.

Later, 19th and 20th century artists used still life to develop their style and technical prowess.  In Canada, artist Douglas Coupland has used Lego pieces to comment on the artificial nature of art. Mary Pratt painted hyper-realistic scenes of fish on a platter before they were cooked, and luminescent jars of canned fruits, foregrounding the domestic skills of modern women.

Following this theme the Monashee Arts Council is inviting people of all ages and skill levels to try their hand at the art of Still Life.

The Deadline for entry is: March 7th
