When we were in Arizona a few years back we came across a beautiful stone called Kyanite. It was one of those things that called your name and you just knew you had to have it. We brought back a bit of it. For the last couple of years it sat on my shelf as we wondered what we could do with it. Tim decided to wire wrap it. That worked! It looks even more beautiful hanging from a chain, I wear it all the time. When you see it in the sunlight you are drawn to all the amazing hues you will see in one stone.
Kyanite is quite the enigma, it can have a hardness of approximately 4.5 – 5.5 or the hardness of this crystal can be about 6.5 -7 on the Mohs scale (created by Friedrich Mohs in 1812, measures softest to hardness of minerals 1= softest,10=hardest this is used measure how easily it can be scratched, Opals and pearls are below 7 they can be easily scratched, while diamonds almost nothing can scratch them, however they can still be chipped or shattered.)
Kyanite is a crystal which has a lot of good properties. It helps to keep you calm, helps to lower blood pressure, and gives you energy. Kyanite Is often used in meditation for its healing properties of aligning the chakras, promoting communication and self-expression while truth, harmony, emotional healing, and clarity are also encouraged.
Kyanite does not need to be recharged as a lot of other crystals do as Kyanite has the unique ability to recharge itself, and does not hold onto negative energy. It should be cleaned with warm water and a small amount of soap, with a very soft brush.
Kyanite is the official gemstone of Finland.
