This year, Mother’s Day falls on Sunday, May 11th—a special day to celebrate and honour the mothers in our families and across our communities. It’s a time to reflect on the love, care, and quiet strength of the women who helped shape our lives.
This heartfelt collection of memories is a beautiful tribute to the mothers and mother figures who have touched our hearts in countless meaningful ways. From the warm scent of fresh-baked bread to the quiet joy of time spent together, these stories remind us how deeply simple moments can leave lasting impressions.
When asked to share a special memory, Steve recalled his mom helping him write his very first story. He was just 7 or 8 years old, but that time together sparked a lifelong love for writing.
Vi fondly remembers the delicious smell of her mother’s baking. Her mom would make fresh loaves of bread almost every day, and there would always be a warm slice waiting for her after school—a snack made with love.
Murray’s mom also loved to bake. Whenever she made fresh buns, it meant hamburger night! But his favourite treat was her homemade cinnamon buns—sweet, sticky, and unforgettable.
For Monika, every Mother’s Day and birthday was marked by dinner out with her son. To her, spending quality time together was far more meaningful than any gift.
Kelly shared how her kids would prepare a homemade breakfast for her every Mother’s Day. Even if it arrived a little cold, she would eat it happily—cherishing the pride and excitement on their faces.
Sue spoke lovingly about her mother-in-law. One cherished memory was of a beautiful white dress with pink flowers that she sewed for her in just one day. Sue recalled how her mother-in-law was always doing kind things for others and truly devoted to caring for those she loved.
A heartfelt thank-you to all the seniors who shared their memories—and to all the mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures out there. Your love, sacrifices, and everyday acts of kindness have left an indelible mark on our hearts.
Happy Mother’s Day!
