April has been a lively and exciting month for our senior’s drop-in. We’ve enjoyed several wonderful guest speakers, fun game days, and engaging craft activities. We also celebrated our 2nd Annual Spring Fling. As the weather begins to warm up, we’re eager to get outside more, enjoy fresh air, and go on even more field trips.
We kicked off the month with a informative presentation about Lumby’s own CO-OP. Chris explained in detail what a CO-OP is (did you know there are several different types?) and how they came to be. We also welcomed Curt Reimer, branch manager of Vernon’s Valley First, along with Officer Stephanie Barker, who spoke about fraud awareness and prevention. With tax season in full swing, scams are unfortunately on the rise. One common scam is the “grandparent scam”, where someone calls pretending to be a grandchild in urgent need of money. A key takeaway from the presentation was to always verify the caller’s identity by hanging up and calling them back using a known phone number.
To wrap up our month of amazing volunteers, we had a fantastic lady generously donate her time to help our seniors make beautiful Easter cards. Not only did she share her time, but she also brought a variety of supplies, including stamps, stickers, and a colourful card stock. Thank you, Sue, for all that you do – once again the cards all turned out beautifully with your patience and guidance.
This month we also celebrated Whitevalley Community Resource Centre’s 2nd annual Spring Fling. Everyone had a fantastic time enjoying live music from Lumby’s own Steel Wound band. Hot dogs and chilli were served to over 60 participants. This great event wouldn’t be without our incredible volunteers – thank you!
As the month winds down with a couple more fun game days, we look forward to a warmer May and more opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors.
