First, I want to congratulate two of our DEEM athletes from the WNBF who competed this past weekend. Tammy Boulanger took home the win in the Grandmaster Figure category, and Arlene Alexander won the New You Category.
The New You Category is designed for individuals who have transformed their health naturally—without weight-loss drugs or other shortcuts—through consistent exercise, healthy eating, and lifestyle changes. The category specifically recognizes those who have lost significant amounts of weight, made healthy habits a priority, reversed obesity-related diseases, reduced or eliminated prescription medications, and are genuinely proud of their journey. It celebrates people who have made remarkable transformations but may not yet feel comfortable stepping on stage in a posing suit, instead competing in athletic wear, as you can see in the photo.
What I love most about this category is that it recognizes that health is about much more than weight loss. It’s about building habits that improve quality of life. Regular exercise not only strengthens the body but also boosts mood through the release of endorphins, increases energy, and improves mental well-being. Healthy food does more than help manage weight—it nourishes the body, supports recovery, reduces inflammation, and provides the nutrients needed to thrive.
