Thunder And Lightning

How Does A Lightning Bolt Navigate Though Life?……With A Spark of Intuition!!!!

Its been another busy week and the next week or two will be just as busy as we all get our gardens planted. Trump again took to insulting another Head of State this time it was the President of South Africa. The African President, Cyril Rampaphosa, took it very calmly even when Trump refused to accept that the hogwash he was trying to present was all lies. I have family in South Africa and am sure they were as horrified as the rest of the sane world with the nasty lies. I’m glad to see the support for the Ostrich Farm is staying strong too bad that a trump like moron shot one of the Ostrich It is too bad that this insult wasn’t caught on camera so they could be charged and more importantly shamed.

The long awaited Thunder and Lightning weather event finally arrived Sunday night after a beautifully warm day. I love Thunder storms and they are extremely good for our plants. This is because the power of lightning breaks down atmospheric nitrogen and combines it with oxygen and mineral and makes them water soluble. This allows the roots of our plants to uptake them into the plant. This nitrogen becomes a key component of chlorophyll which makes our plants a nice healthy green. Sort of an organic natural occurring free fertilizer. Also when this weather is coming in it causes a drop in Barometric Pressure which for the plants is good as it affects the cells in leaves and will cause the plant to grow faster as if affects photosynthesis and plant respiration. Unfortunately the drop in pressure affect many people with headaches, joint and muscle pain. A bit of a trade off for sure, but I really like thunder storms and that gentle but heavy rain. Made me wish that the greenhouse was like a rag top car. Would have saved me hours of work!

Another interesting thing that affects our plants is music. A great deal of research has been put into the use of music on plants. It has been found that Classical, Jazz all help plants in the germination stage. It also promotes root development, frost tolerance, improves the taste of plants and their fruit. It also helps the plant to be resistant to pests like Spider Mites and Aphids and increases resistance in your plants to some molds, blight and viral diseases especially in Tomato Plants. Loud blasts of Rock and Roll are more for the barbecue and I saw no reference to Country and Western.

The plants are going well at the Co-op and its been so nice to have so many come to the greenhouse!

Happy Gardening!
