At this time of the year most lakes you go to you will find a variety of birds, ducks, and other animals including at Rawlings Lake. For the past few weeks the Swans have been at Rawlings Lake, but for some reason there were only five that I could see. I have seen ten or more at this lake.
I know one of the Swans had lost their mate a few years ago, and as they mate for life I would not have seen another one to be with that Swan. Could be that some of the other Swans have lost their mates as well and that would be why I saw so few of them there now.
On their last day the Swans were at the lake. I saw one Sandhill Crane, some could have been hiding in the high swamp area as it is unusual to only see one by itself.
The weather was good and Rawlings Lake was as beautiful as ever, but I did notice it was a little high again. Hopefully it doesn’t flood this year, but it might.
While I was there I saw some other ducks that I don’t normally see at Rawlings Lake, so of course I took their picture. I will have to look them up to see what kind of ducks they were before I tell you about them.
BTW heads up on the little Robin that comes to my window, I thought it was gone after helping Mando-Lynn with her transition, but it still comes to my windows every day, and lately he’s been coming to my window with twigs, grass, and other things to show me he’s getting ready to nest nearby. I have a lot of theories as to why he is coming to see me, I still think it’s my little Jack. Whatever the reason why the little Robin comes to my windows it gives me great joy when I see him, he possibly is helping me with my losses. And I appreciate him very much.
