Thanks For The Memories…

Lumby Food Bank’s Fun-Filled Carnival Fundraiser raises over $2200

Wow! What a day we had at the Lumby Food Bank’s fundraiser! It was jam-packed with fun, laughter, and a whole lot of community spirit. We had everything from a bouncy castle to a dunk tank, and oh, the cotton candy! Not to mention Grimm’s BBQ’d smokies, hot dogs with fried onions, and hot, buttery corn on the cob—grab an ice-cold drink, and you’re all set! Talk about a feast!

A very special shout out goes to our amazing sponsor, Grimm’s fine foods and their #1 man Paul, who set the wheels in motion and kept the meat coming hot and juicy, working alongside of wife, Maude, and young son, Elliott—who willingly showed everyone how to use the bouncy castle! Without their energy, spirit and dedication to the community, this would never have seen the light of day! Grimm’s Fine Foods paved the way for this amazing community affair, but still…we couldn’t have done it without all of YOU!

Big thanks to Bo Sash Contracting for coming through with the insurance for the bouncy castle and to Draxx Lavington for reaching out as well. The enormous insurance fee almost deflated our dreams of the bouncy castle for our kids, so once again-thanks! The kids had an absolute blast bouncing all day long. The sounds of them laughing and squealing from the castle was so refreshing to hear- just good old fun, playing, and bouncing—even the odd mom and dad could be seen crawling through the opening (reliving their childhood a tad)!

And speaking of the bouncy castle, we owe a huge thank you to Emmanuel Baptist Church for lending us both the bouncy castle and the cotton candy machine. The sugar rush was real– as were the endless bees that surrounded those of us trying to spin cotton candy , a few bees eventually found their way into some of the fluffy stuff, hoping for one last taste– RIP –such a sweet death!

Oh, and let’s chat about that dunk tank shall we? Brought to you by our most generous president Robert, the dunk tank was one of the busiest spots and wettest of the day— with so many laughs and splashes, and the bullseye getting shot at more times than not! Trying to dodge that bullseye was impossible as each person lined up determined to sink their victim! Several brave volunteers were ready, willing and DID take the plunge–with Robert being the first to have an early morning dunk!

We were also delighted to have Anita from Fletcher’s Keep with us, who shared the details about their program caring for senior dogs in our community. She also introduced the brand-new Paws Nourish and Nurture program that will help even more pets and their owners through the Lumby Food Bank and Fletcher’s Keep. The work they’re doing is truly amazing. Please check out the website www.fletcherskeep.com go to the “programs” section, where you can learn about the new initiative that we are working together on together. If you have a need for your elderly pet, feel free to go online and fill out an application, you can also ask for an application at the food bank.

Speaking of elderly pets… we had the famous Cooper stop in for a visit, and I had no idea that our young looking pup is already in his 80’s for goodness sake! Who would have guessed that our cooper is a senior? I sure hope I’m as limber as this youngster is when I’m his age… hold on, what am I talking about, I failed that years ago!

This memorable day couldn’t have happened without the support of so many wonderful people and organizations in and around our community. A HUGE thank you to Grimm’s Fine Foods (Paul, Maude, Elliot), Emmanuel Baptist Church, Conrad (Bo Sash Contracting), Nick (Drax Lavington), Ken ( Gilbert’s Parts Depot), Andrew (The Lumby Valley Times), Linda (Lumby Lions), Lumby Legion #167, Laura for Balloons Galore and our fabulous volunteers who helped to made this happen—from cutting onions(much Luv to Dorothy)  to spinning cotton candy and keeping the dunk tank busy—Special thanks for being good sports- to Terry, Owen, Victoria, Cadance, Savanah, and Noah for sharing the dunk tank fun and joy!

And of course, a massive thank you to everyone who came out to support us. Whether you were jumping in the bouncy castle, eating hot dogs, or just there to show some love, we appreciate you. The smiles, laughter, and support we saw made it all worth it. My sincere and heartfelt apologies if I’ve left anyone out, never intentional.. over-worked, under-paid… you know the scenario!

Here’s to more fun, fabulous fundraisers in the future!

Until next time, the Lumby Food Bank thanks you from the bottom of our hearts!
