Experience the stunning beauty of our local waterways through the eyes of artist Huguette Allen. “Rivers and Streams: The Hidden Language of Water” is a captivating exhibition featuring a collection of original oil paintings that highlight the splendour of the rivers and streams surrounding our community. The exhibition will be on display at Lumby Library from March 26 to the end of July, with all works available for viewing and purchase through the Monashee Arts Council.
Huguette’s paintings are known for their rich, harmonious compositions created with a limited palette inspired by the Old Masters. Her work captures the raw beauty of nature in an impressionist style, translating fleeting moments into timeless impressions. After three decades of studying art history, drawing, and painting, Huguette continues to refine her craft through workshops and mentorships with master artists at the Tucson Art Academy Online. Her dedication to artistic growth blends classical technique with a contemporary perspective.
“I paint what sustains us,” says Huguette, often found along the banks of the Shuswap River with her easel. “These waterways are the lifeblood of our community. When my paintings stir emotion and offer something new with each viewing, I know I’ve created something that truly matters.”
The exhibition is not only a chance to view beautiful artwork but also an opportunity to deepen our connection with the environment. In addition to the gallery, a series of one-hour presentations will offer expert insights into the local ecosystems and their significance. These sessions will foster discussion about the preservation of our watersheds and the vital role they play in our community.

Presentations will be held at Lumby Library on select Wednesday afternoons at 4:00 PM and Thursday evenings at 7:00 PM. Dates and details will be announced soon.
