Remembrance Day

A Time to Reflect and Remember

Each year on November 11, Canadians pause to honour the courage and sacrifice of the men and women who served in times of war, conflict, and peacekeeping. For many seniors, Remembrance Day carries deep personal meaning—memories of loved ones who served, stories passed down through families, and gratitude for the freedoms secured through their bravery.

At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, we observe a moment of silence to remember those who gave their lives. The poppy, worn with pride, has become our symbol of remembrance—its bright red petals reminding us of the battlefields of Flanders and the enduring hope for peace.

Seniors play a vital role in keeping these stories alive. Sharing memories, attending ceremonies, and teaching younger generations about the cost of freedom ensures that the lessons of the past are never forgotten. Whether it’s watching the national ceremony in Ottawa, visiting a local cenotaph, or simply reflecting quietly at home, every act of remembrance matters.

Remembrance Day is not only about honouring the fallen, but also about renewing our commitment to peace, understanding, and community. As Canadians, we remember—today and always.
