Why Are Raspberries Such Good Friends With Strawberries? They Jam Together
La Nino is behaving true to form and so far we have experienced a cooler and wetter summer but although this week is being true to this form warm weather should return for late July and August.
This cooler weather is certainly a treat for me as the heat is hard on me and for all of us, it’s not that great to work in. The windstorm we had last Thursday was pretty intense and although I didn’t suffer any damage or power outage many did and that’s always a pain. I was left with a fair amount of mess to clean up but that I can live with.
Everything in the garden is doing quite well and although some things like Peppers, Watermelon and Cantaloupe like it warmer it is what it is, only time will tell how well the harvest will be this year. The Raspberries are doing fantastic and I can’t remember them having been this big or this prolific or any sweeter than they are this year. I have been picking like crazy and there is still lots more to come. I am selling lots of course but all surplus berries are being frozen on trays and I will put them into freezer bags for later consumption and some Raspberry Jam, my favourite.
People are telling me that the wild berries are prolific as well and many are out picking them. Keep your eyes out for wild animals like Bears as they love them too and will be out indulging themselves. Strawberry crops should be doing well right now and I’m sure that the farmers and their staff are being kept busy picking them. Unfortunately the reduction of immigrant staff is certainly going to have an affect.
Strawberries are nice to have but other crops that these workers pick is going to affect the American diet greatly. It’s not like the children of this generation are going to put down their cell phones and actually work to either earn, purchase or pay for these phones.
It should be interesting to see how the policies down south will bend in order to get these products to market.
It also has been revealed that Trump has some medical issues that are coming to light. I thought he was looking a little off but I was blaming it on his ill fitting suit over that bullet proof vest and looking a little on the tired side wIth all the work he’s been doing he’s probably not sleeping as well as he should. Such a pity.
I heard the sad news that due to Trumps influence on the media my favourite Late Night Show with Steven Colbert is being shut down. This is such a shame as it’s been my favourite talk show ever with a mutual disdain for Trump and an intelligent and humorous presentation of this disdain. It will be a sad loss. Unfortunately the show comes on well past my bed time so I have been recording the show and will be able to watch the episodes for years to come. If you haven’t seen this show I recommend it highly for many reasons not only his well respected opinion of a moron but his interesting guests and entertainment level.
Happy Gardening!
