Noble Canyon Fire Information – Updates

Saturday, Sept. 6, 1:30pm:

Evacuation Alert Issued Along Highway 6 Due to Noble Canyon Wildfire

Based on recommendation from the BC Wildfire Service, an Evacuation Alert has been issued by Regional District North Okanagan (RDNO) Emergency Operations Centre due the Noble Canyon Wildfire (K41979) in Lavington.

Because of the potential danger to life and health, the RDNO has issued an Evacuation Alert for the following areas within RDNO Electoral Area D:

Going West to East – Starting at 5280 Hwy 6 heading East to the Tolko Mill:

4290, 4280, 4289, and 4850 Hwy 6, including Willems Mill

(North to South – Approximately 500m (0.5km) on either side of Hwy 6)

This Evacuation Alert has been issued to prepare you to evacuate your premises, property, or recreational site within the mapped area should it be necessary. Residents will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to evacuation; however you may receive limited notice due to changing conditions. See map of Evacuation Alert area attached.

Please note: The attached map is a general guideline. Any property in proximity to the area should be prepared, and ready to evacuate during threatened times.

We are also still urging all residents and visitors to avoid the Noble Canyon and Becker Lake/Baldolph area due to wildfire activity. Active wildfire efforts are underway, and we are asking for the public’s support to ensure these efforts can be completed as safely and effectively as possible.

If your property has been put on Evacuation Alert:

  • Locate family members and designate a meeting area outside the evacuation area should an Evacuation Order be called while separated.
  • Pack essential items such as government-issued IDs, medications, eyeglasses, valuable papers, immediate care needs for dependents, and, if time and space permit, keepsakes for quick departure.
  • Prepare to move persons with disabilities, children, or neighbours, if assistance is needed.
  • Prepare to take pets with you and move livestock to a safe area.
  • Arrange transportation for all household members. Fill the gas tanks of personal vehicles.
  • If possible, arrange accommodation for all members of the residence. Persons with disabilities or who require assistance should contemplate evacuation before a mandatory order. Support services can be available after a mandatory order is issued.
  • Wait for an Evacuation Order to be issued before evacuating.
  • Monitor the news, radio, and online sources for information on evacuation orders and the location of Reception Centres.

Further information will be issued as updates are received from the BC Wildfire Service. Residents are encouraged to visit www.rdno.ca/activeemergencies, the RDNO Facebook page, and listen to local radio for more information. You can also find an interactive version of the RDNO Wildfire Map here.

The District of Coldstream issued the evacuation order in the Lavington area late Friday night, along with an evacuation alert for dozens more properties.
The Regional District of North Okanagan urged all residents in the area to avoid the Noble Canyon and Becker Lake areas due to the fire, which covered an area of 50 hectares late Friday night.
