News from the OAPO/Monashee 50+ Club – October 11, 2024

Submitted by Ann McLeod

Ann McLeod here.  In my first article on behalf of the OAP, I would like to thank Pam for her contributions to keeping people informed. I am looking forward to making you aware of future events as well as to the regular activities at the OAP Hall.

The OAP Lumby branch hosted the provincial meeting of the British Columbia Old Age Pensioners Organization on September 25th and 26th.  From all accounts, it was a success, thanks to the many volunteers whose donated time, hard work, and enthusiasm led to its success.

The next general meeting of the OAP will be held on Thursday, October 10th at 10 am.  The entire community is welcome to come and hear our guest speaker, Lori Levi, from Westland Insurance. She will speak on the new cyber threat coverage. This should be interesting and informative as the cyber threat has become an increasingly prominent feature in our lives.

The elections for executive positions on the Board will be held at the Thursday, November 14th meeting. The positions that are up for election are those of president, secretary and three directors. Two of the directors are no longer on the Board and will have to be replaced.  Nomination forms will be available at the October meeting and the forms need to be returned by November 14th.

The OAP welcomes new members. The fee for the year’s membership is $20.00.  The OAP Hall is a busy place, with a variety of groups there on a regular basis. I hope to be able to tell you more about these groups in future articles.

One event that is extremely popular is Tuesday night BINGO.  Reminder:  Doors open at 5 pm and the concession opens at 5 pm. Card sales open at 5:30 pm and the games begin at 6:30 pm. Have a wonderful week everyone and enjoy the fall weather while it lasts.
