Rudi Gedaschke (1933-2022) received his ship building masters degree in Germany but chose to abandon the career in 1950 and come to Canada with his mother (Lina). They settled in Cherryville. Rudi married “Muffy” Kohlman in 1957 and together they welcomed five children: Bonnie, Joanne, Susan, Marjorie (died at birth) and Walter. In the late 1960’s Rudi was working for Herb & Bob Gudeit falling trees for 50 cents a tree. After falling 200 trees and earning $100.00 for the day, Rudi often called it a good day’s work and headed home. Rudi was an avid fisherman, strong supporter of Lumby Fish & Wildlife Association and together with BC Hydro, helped to bring salmon back to this area.
