Moments in Time – Photos & Memories from the Lumby Museum – Roderick Chisholm- February 17, 2023

Born in Nova Scotia, Roderick J. Chisholm (1884-1971) arrived in Lumby in 1920 after serving in the Royal Canadian Engineers during World War 1.  Rod was a blacksmith by trade and purchased Eli Andre’s blacksmith shop on Shuswap Avenue (now Ace Hardware’s lumber storage area).  In 1929, Rod married Elizabeth (Bettie) Genier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Genier.  Rod and Bettie adopted two children: Fred Tatlow and Joe Chisholm.  Rod and Sam Derry from the feed store across the road became good friends and could often be found in heated discussions in the late afternoon.  Mr. Chisholm retired in the late 1950’s as blacksmithing work became obsolete and the building was eventually demolished.
