Did you know in June 1948, the Lumby Legion sponsored the first Lumby Rodeo in Lumby’s Community Park?  Henry Carson from the Kit Carson Guest Ranch put together a group of volunteers to dig the fence post holes and build corrals and chutes to hold the horses and cattle.  Profits from the rodeo were used to support the Legion Building Committee.

The last rodeo was held in 1950 when profits from the rodeo had to be shared with the Village of Lumby.  The 24th Premier of British Columbia, Byron Johnson, along with his wife Kate, attended the 1949 rodeo and wrote a letter to the Lumby Board of Trade, thanking the organizers for “such an outstanding success”.   The 2024 Lumby Days “Rock and Roll” themed celebration will be held June 14, 15 & 16th.
