Lumby’s Flying Frenchmen.  It was 1967 and Lumby boasted a new hockey arena built with funds from Canada’s Centennial project.  Wally and Eddie Chaput donated full NHL calibre uniforms to the team.

By 1970, the competitive  Monashee Hockey League was formed boasting teams from Grindrod, Revelstoke, Salmon Arm, Lumby and later Golden and Nakusp.  During Monashee Hockey League’s hay day, it wasn’t unusual for 2 busloads of Lumby fans to head up to Revelstoke to cheer on their team.   And there were disagreements that turned into fights…we recall a scrap between King Cam and Russ Headington when King pulled a fistful of hair from Russ’s head!  Next week we will share stories of the Flying Frenchmen players and fans.
