Gerald “Shorty” Laviolette was born in 1936 and lived the “cowboy way” from a very young age. He was born to Lumby pioneers Herman and Alice (Werner) Laviolette. The family would move to Kamloops in 1943 but in 1980, Gerald would return to his Lumby roots, bringing with him his wife Alda (1936-2022) and their children Debbie, Cindy, Randy and Eddy. Gerald became an electrician by trade and helped build and manage the 1&2 Electric Building at 2000 Norris Avenue. In 1978, Dr. Dave Danskin would establish his dental practice in the building, and in 2005, Dr. Paula Winsor-Lee would take over from Dr. Danskin, establishing Monashee Dental Centre.
