Did you know Lumby’s “Tamarack Recreation Centre” opened on Vernon Street in 1949 and sported 3 bowling alleys, a pool hall, the “Tamarack Grill” and a barber shop? Murray Langton originally built the Centre at a cost of $30,000.00.  In 1966, Joe (1916-1983) and Gladys (Oliverius) (1927-1996) Kral purchased the Centre from John and Mary Leont.  Over time, the building underwent many renovations, including a new name: “Echo Lanes”.  By the time Echo Lanes closed, the building sported a six- lane bowling alley and concession.  Today, the building is vacant.  Joe and Gladys married in 1942 and raised two children: Janice (Baines) (1949-2006) and Errol Kral.
