The first livery stable in Lumby was built by Tom Christien. The stable was later converted to a motor car garage and was operated by Ray Shaeffer and Walter Kempton. In the early 1940’s, Sadie Major bought the building and lived upstairs. Pete Shumka rented the downstairs and opened a garage, eventually purchasing the building from Sadie. In 1953, Pete demolished the building and built a new garage. George Morrison rented the garage for a time until Dan Chambers Trucking purchased the building and operated out of the building until April 16, 1982 when the building was destroyed by fire. Today, Sisters Restaurant occupies this space at 1920 Vernon Street.
