Clifford and Verna Freeman moved to Lumby in 1960 from Langley and purchased the Weidman farm on Mabel Lake Road. After trying their hand in the beef cattle industry, they decided to try dairy farming. It was a wise choice and was the beginning of public service for Clifford who served on the NOCA Dairy Board, as a Regional District Director and was instrumental in bringing Lumby it’s first ambulance service in 1971.

The Freeman’s rented a portion of their land to Dr. Sawatski who grazed a herd of buffalo! The Freeman’s were married in 1943 and raised 6 children: Carol (Bliss), Heather, Nancy (House), Marilyn, Gwen (Johnson) and Murray. Today the farm is operated by Marianne and Ignacio Alvarez.
