Following up on last week’s Moments in Time…., I mentioned spectator Derek Routley was injured during the 1957 Vernon and District Apple Box Derby. Although 4-year old Derek underwent a long recovery, he grew up to be an amazing community volunteer for many organizations, including the Lumby Lions, Lumby Legion and was Lumby’s very own “Santa” for many years. He drove car #12 – a 1971 Monte Carlo at the Lumby raceway. Derek recently received a new heart and lives with his wife Linda in Okanagan Falls.
