This is a column meant for fun and some information About myself: I am a Freelance Photographer you often see me on the side of the road or in various places taking photos of different things animals, birds, places, people etc. l have lived in Lumby for over 8 years, you have seen my photos in the newspaper (Lumby Valley Times) and once in awhile in the Vernon Morning Star, and the Lumby Art Gallery. Photography is my passion. Last week when I went to check my mail something curious caught my eye, the blue box was gone. The blue box which held the Lumby Valley Times was not there. Oh No!
I had thought Andrew removed it, so of course I immediately texted him. Andrew didn’t know anything about the box being gone. The hunt began.
I talked to people at the trailer park, no one knew anything about it. Andrew did his own hunting and questions. These boxes are quite expensive to buy, I had hoped that nobody would steal them.
I missed going to the mailbox and grabbing my newspaper to read every page while having my cereal in the morning. It’s quite convenient for me to have the newspaper box beside my mailbox, as living in a rural area I don’t always get into town on a daily basis. This week I didn’t get my paper, and of course every time I went into town I forgot to grab one. Reading it online is just not fun for me.
Then the next day VOILA!
Andrew texted me and he had found the box, it was a mixup with The Vernon Morning Star while they were picking up their boxes they mistakenly grabbed The Lumby Valley Times box.
Hooray! This is good news, Andrew will be bringing the box back on Wednesday, I will get to read the physical paper again. I am pretty excited about this, can you tell?
There is the old saying ” You don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone, I think the great Canadian song writer, singer, superstar Joni Mitchell made this line famous in her song Big Yellow Taxi way back in the 70’s, who by the way received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the March 29, 2026 Juno Awards which was fantastic!
And just so you know I did miss the newspaper that is for sure.
It’s funny how the little things in life can make you smile.
