The Lumby Lightning Swim Club capped off a successful season on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 with its annual year-end banquet and awards night. This year, the club celebrated a record-high 88 swimmers under the coaching of Ellie Williamson and Michelle Nickerson.
The season kicked off on May 20 and quickly gained momentum with the Lightning’s home meet, the Unity & Light Electric Lumby Swim Meet, held June 6–7. Swimmers also represented the club at meets in Salmon Arm, Penticton, Kelowna, and at Regionals in Kamloops over the Civic Holiday weekend.
A huge thank you goes out to our families, community supporters, and everyone who purchased tickets for the Flash & Splash Raffle Event. Special appreciation to our Swim Meet Title Sponsor, Unity & Light Electric, as well as Julian van der Walle Law Corporation and Correct Tattoo Removal Clinic for their Lane Sponsorships. We are also grateful to the following swimmer sponsors for their generosity:
Casey Neufeld Tandem Truck & Pup Rental, Avenue Pizza, The Fuzzy Peach Spa, Stream Property Partnership, Legacy Log & Timberworks, Great Canadian Oil Change – Anderson Way, Bonnie Richardson MSW – RSW, Pat Duggan Farm, Ranch, Residential Real Estate, Kaitlyn Clarkson with Valley Threads Merch, North Okanagan Foot & Ankle, Shane Bremner Contracting, Monashee Fitness
The club hosted a very well-attended Challenge Week from July 21–25, pushing athletes to test their endurance, perseverance, and grit. Swimmers took part in morning swims, the Cop Hill running challenge, a mini triathlon, hiking Blue Nose Mountain, Swim-o-poly, biking the Okanagan Rail Trail from Vernon to Oyama, an open water swim at Wood Lake, and wrapped up the week with a fun pizza party in the park.
This season also marked the first annual “Making Waves for Lumby” fundraiser. A total of 47 swimmers participated, swimming 2,322 laps (a combined distance of 58.05 km) and raising $1,993. Of that, $1,000 will be donated to the Lumby & District Community Health Services Society.
