What Did The Traffic Light Say To The Parade? Don’t Cross Me?
I survived another Lumby Days and as usual it was busy and fun with a good mixture of people both local and from afar. This year I met a lovely woman from Montreal then a lovely woman and her two young children were at my booth and they were from Quatar. Now that was interesting! She told me that the temperatures there were in the 50’s now that is hot so although it got into the 30’s on Sunday I’m sure she found that quite a relief. Although we did not get our usual rain pour for Lumby Day’s it did pour heavily on Albers Road.
Many people enjoyed the Parade which was festooned with flowers and candy for all. Next year I’m going to take the parade in as I’ve had to miss it for the last 9 years. I want to thank the people who relieved me from my booth and the many who brought me food and drink. You saved my life! Another nice thing that happened was a man from the midway who stopped by and informed me that of all their travels throughout BC that Lumby was their favourite place due to the people that set up here and attend, the variety and quality of the food stalls and other exhibits that it is their favourite place to attend. So nice, congratulations Lumby! Many people who come to my booth every year share their successes and problems that affect their gardens .
This year I heard of a new pest that people are experiencing and that is Marmots. Although we have seen one here so far no problem but then again my garden isn’t planted yet so that is my goal this week if the weather will cooperate and if I recuperate sufficiently from Lumby Days. I was very busy and did have a great time but it does take a lot out of me.
Deer of course are an issue and Voles and other rodents and I will discuss these in upcoming articles. We should be watching for a cooler trend that should be hitting us by Thursday and although it won’t affect most of us there are areas in Cherryville and higher onTrinity Valley Road that could see some frost. Plants are still available at the Monashee Co op until this weekend and then they are making their big move to their new home next door to the Dollar Store. This will be a great move with a larger space for their products and ample parking for the customers.
Of course you can also give me a call at the Greenhouse and come up to make selections there. Although I have sold out of some things I still have a good selection yet.
Happy Gardening!
