Kicking Off the New Year Together

After a short break for the Christmas holidays, we were delighted to return in January and see everyone’s smiling faces once again.

We kicked off the month with Movement Mondays, offering a variety of physical activities to help shed some holiday indulgences. Staying active while having fun is always our goal, and one popular game was bead toss. This fast-paced, one-minute challenge has participants tossing beaded necklaces into a bucket to see how many they can land before time runs out. Some take their time, focusing on beating their personal best, while others go full speed in hopes of setting the daily record!

The following Monday, we moved on to an hour-long session of seated yoga. These low-impact activities help to stretch muscles and improve flexibility and is something any senior can do in the comfort of their own home. Another favourite physical game continues to be bean bag toss—anything that gets you up and moving is always a good thing!

Throughout January, we also completed several creative craft projects. Participants crafted beautiful sticker mosaics and worked on paint-by-number scenic designs, which took a bit longer and could be taken home to finish at a relaxed pace. Our final craft of the month was making snowflake sun catchers. The end results resembled stained glass and look stunning hanging in windows.

One of the sillier celebrations this month took place on January 7, when we marked National Pass Gas Day. This lighthearted occasion was filled with laughter and jokes that stunk, as we played a humorous card game that kept everyone smiling.

Overall, January was filled with fun during our seniors’ programs—playing games, creating crafts, participating in trivia, staying active, and most importantly, socializing together.
