Golden Triumphs

Lumby Stars Shine Bright at SWFT Tournament

Over three days and five games, the Lumby Stars U11 Female team clinched their third GOLD tournament victory of the season at the SWFT (Shuswap Winter Female Tournament). In the first game against the Salmon Arm Silverhawks, the teams were evenly matched, but the Stars secured a 3-1 win. A quick turnaround game against Ridge Meadows resulted in an impressive 13-0 victory.

The Saturday morning matchup against the Abbotsford Ice, seeking revenge from a prior tournament, ended in a stalemate with exceptional performances from both goalies. In the final round-robin game against the Revelstoke Stoked Cubs, a slow start didn’t hinder the Stars, who finished with a 5-0 win, securing the top spot for the gold medal game—a rematch against the Silverhawks.

In the gold medal game, the Stars dominated with a 5-0 lead going into the third period, but the Silverhawks managed two quick goals. Despite their efforts, the Stars triumphed with a final score of 5-2.

A standout moment for the team was the chance to meet Canadian U18 Female players Chloe Primerano and Gracie Graham, providing an unforgettable experience.

Sponsored by Moving Mountain’s Earthworks, the Lumby Stars have two league games left in the season. They are set to co-host the OMAHA U11/U18 Female Recreational Playoffs in Lumby from March 8-10, 2024, with the schedule to be announced in the coming weeks. Go Stars!
