Celebrating a Full Month of Activities
What a month it has been! Sunshine, rain, snow — we truly experienced it all. Spring officially arrived on March 20th, even if it doesn’t quite feel like it just yet. Despite the unpredictable weather, we enjoyed a wonderfully busy month filled with special guests, student visits, workshops, and creative activities.
We kicked things off by welcoming students from J.W. Inglis. Over the first two Mondays, the children paired up with our seniors for lively trivia games. These intergenerational visits were a highlight for everyone involved, followed by dessert and plenty of great conversation.
Earlier in the month, we hosted our final session on Advance Care Planning — an important topic for people of all participants. We also welcomed Chantelle from the John Rudy Health Resource Centre for a two-part educational workshop on maximizing medical appointments. Participants walked away with practical tips and valuable insights they can use in their future healthcare visits.
Creativity was in full bloom this month as well. One of our talented local volunteers led a popular card-making class, guiding participants in creating beautiful handmade birthday cards. She generously donates both her time and materials, making these sessions especially meaningful and accessible. In addition, we embraced the season with two Easter-themed crafts: festive wreaths for our doors and hand-painted Easter pots decorated with flowers and seasonal accents.
We also introduced a new game to the program — a whiteboard version of Wheel of Fortune! Instead of spinning a wheel, players flipped cards to determine letter values, with a few “bankrupt” and “lose a turn” surprises mixed in. The game was a big hit and kept everyone laughing and engaged.
Looking ahead, Whitevalley Community Resource Centre and Cherryville Community Food & Resources are partnering with the Alzheimer Society to bring two informative workshops to Lumby this April. We’re also excited for our annual Senior Spring Fling, featuring magician Leif David, who is sure to deliver another unforgettable performance.
Whitevalley Community Resource Centre wishes you the luck of the Irish this St. Patrick’s Day and please feel free to call the office for more information on senior’s programs, meals, volunteer opportunities and upcoming events;
