As Father’s Day approaches, we took a moment to sit down with some of our seniors and ask them about their favourite memories with their dads. The stories they shared were filled with love, laughter, and life lessons. Here are just a few of the heartfelt moments they reminisced about:
Murray recalls the peaceful moments he spent in the garden with his dad, weeding together on cooler days. A cherished holiday tradition he remembers is heading out to the bush each year to chop down their Christmas tree—a simple joy that brought them closer each season.
Mel grew up on a farm, where he created countless memories working alongside his dad. One unforgettable day stands out: his dad brought him lunch in a brand-new 1975 Ford station wagon. They spent time exploring all the new gadgets in the car, and Mel says he’ll never forget the pride he felt driving home with his father that day—just like a king.
Pat remembers tagging along on plumbing jobs with her dad when she was young. Helping him out made her feel special, but it was the family camping and fishing trips that stood out most. She laughed as she recounted a trip where she screamed about a leech on her leg, only to have her dad spend the rest of the trip assuring her it wouldn’t hurt her.
Steve, who grew up in Northern BC, holds dear the family evenings spent by the lake. Roasting hot dogs around the campfire with his dad and siblings remains one of his fondest memories of togetherness and warmth.
These touching stories are a beautiful reminder of the special bond between fathers and their children. This Father’s Day, we celebrate the love, guidance, and cherished moments shared across generations.
