Welcome January! This month has brought some chillier weather so we have been doing our best to keep our seniors busy and moving.
We started our January activities off with a Coffee Klatch. This is a time for socializing over a warm cup of coffee/tea and catch up with our friends. We usually do fun ice breaker questions in order to learn new or fun facts about each other that we might not already know.
One of our activities this month was focused on making our very own chap sticks. This was a benefit to us, due to the chilly weather and dried out lips. We made different flavours such as watermelon, strawberry and mint. They smelled amazing.
As the month progressed, we were fortunate to have our local paramedic come and host a diabetes awareness day. We had very good attendance and everyone left with new information. There are many good resources for more information on diabetes. An excellent website to review is www.diabetes.ca. If you have any concerns, please talk to your doctor.
Another exciting presentation this month was a new guest speaker. Her name is Mikkie Nettles from Deem Fitness in Vernon. She is a Certified Personal trainer/Holistic & Sports Nutritionist. If she sounds familiar it is because she is the author of Mikkie’s Corner in the Lumby Valley Times. Mikkie lead us in an informative class of simple exercises and stretches we can do every day. Simple things that will keep our bodies moving.
As we move along this New Year, we look forward to warmer weather and more activities to keep our Seniors active. If you have any questions about our programs, please reach out to us at Whitevalley Community Resource Centre 250-547-8866.
