Cherryville Challenges Lumby Outhouse Racers

As Cherryville’s annual summer festival evolved from the late 1990s into the 21st century, the original Cherryville Days soap box derby event magically transformed into the Cherryville Outhouse Races. News of this event even reached as far as the curators of an actual outhouse museum in England who contacted the Cherryville community club to offer their support for the outhouse runs. We have yet to hear back from NASA regarding our advice for problem-free plumbing systems.

As you may imagine, the Cherryville community has been very impressed with the quality, creativity and enthusiasm generated by Lumby’s winter contribution to this unique event. The level of participation and attendance is a tribute to the sport.

On the Cherryville side, however, it must be said that the event has been struggling in recent years to regain the levels of competition that we once enjoyed. It is with hopes of kick-starting this year’s Cherryville Days theme of motorcycle madness that – with the greatest respect – we challenge Lumby outhouse racers to replace the skis on their vehicles with wheels and join us in Hanson Park, Saturday, June 6 for some friendly runs around the barrels.

Please note experience has shown that skid marks are common and dirt is less forgiving than snow in the potential for accidents, so safety is a primary concern and helmets are mandatory.

Should anyone wish to participate or have questions about our race, please contact the Cherryville Community Club at cherryvillecommunityclub@gmail.com
