Artbeat – Arts & Culture from the Edge – September 15, 2023

“Heritage”? Or “My Story”?

Who are you? What makes you a unique individual? Is it your heritage? The life you have lived? Or the process of your own creative spirit? Perhaps it is a patchwork quilt or mosaic of all these elements.

The current show at the village Gallery presents the way several artists responded to these questions; musing on genealogy, geology, place, personal life journeys, family and community history.

Come on in and enjoy the thoughtful written and visual musings of our local artists in many different mediums.

The Show at the Village Gallery (1975 Vernon Street) runs til September 30th

Hours are 10 to 4 Monday to Saturday.

Call for Artists – Magic and Mayhem

As we come upon the time of harvest it is wise to look at all the magical and chaotic revelations that surround this time of year.

For many cultures, the fall has held a special place as so many important things happen at this turning of the season many of which have been wrapped within magic and superstition. From the belief that this is the time of the year when the veil between worlds is at its thinnest allowing the supernatural to creep along the edges of our vision.

What better way to celebrate this change than by looking deeper into the magical changing of the leaves and what may hide beyond their brilliant leaves, dreaming of what the jack-o-lanterns are grinning at and remembering some of the practices that are still rooted deeply in the rituals, spiritual and cultural that have held the intention to invoke, manipulate and otherwise manifest those otherworldly forces.

What’s Art without a little Magic and Mayhem
