The community is warmly invited to visit the Village Gallery between April 7 and May 1 to celebrate the creativity and accomplishments of local artists.

Upcoming – 30th anniversary of the Monashee Quilters Circle

Monashee Quilters Circle of Lumby is proudly celebrating 30 years of creating cozy handmade quilts and related items. We started out as a hand full of women getting together at someone’s home it grew into a dedicated group of 27 plus women getting together every week to share some laughs, conversation and ideas for things to come. We all work on our individual projects as well as group projects.

Many of these items have been donated back into the community. Two of our most recent projects were donating over 50 handmade items to Monashee Mews care home followed by a free monthly quilt raffle for residence of Saddle Mountain, 17 quilts donated in all.

The latest is our Barn Quilt project that we have joined up with the Monashee Arts Council and Lumby Men’s Shed. Monashee quilter’s have created fabric quilt blocks that will be sewn together to make a beautiful quilt representing the first twenty barn quilts to adorn barns, sheds, houses and businesses throughout our community. The artists of Monashee Arts council will be replicating them by painting the same design onto wooden plywood squares of various sizes. These wooden ones are called ‘barn quilts’ and will be available for purchase to be displayed around the Lumby, Whitevale, Monashee area and elsewhere.

More info will be available at Lumby Art Gallery during the month of May as they have in honour of our 30th year as an active quilting group, generously allowed us the space  to display our quilts, table runners and many other smaller handmade items. Please drop in to the gallery between May 4th – 29th to see what we have been up to and perhaps find something to take home with you.
