July was all about staying cool while making the most of every opportunity to connect, create, and have fun! Despite the summer heat, we packed the month with friendly competition, creative crafts, special guests, our annual Intergenerational BBQ, and two wonderful community outings.
Although temperatures soared, we found plenty of ways to stay active. Making good use of the morning shade, we enjoyed lively games of bocce. We welcomed a special guest yoga instructor for several indoor sessions. Our final class of the month introduced participants to Qi Gong, a gentle practice that combines mindful stretching, controlled breathing, and slow, flowing movements to promote relaxation, balance, and inner calm.
One of the highlights of the month was our annual Intergenerational BBQ, where our seniors were joined by the children from the local Summer Day Camp. The event was filled with laughter and excitement thanks to the incredible entertainment by Evan the Juggler. He amazed everyone with his impressive performance, ending the show by juggling swords while riding a unicycle! After the entertainment, everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch of cheeseburgers, tasty sides, and dessert. It was a wonderful day of connection, laughter, and shared memories, and we’re already looking forward to next year’s celebration.
Even with such a busy month, we still managed to fit in two memorable field trips. Our first outing took us to the Lumby Museum, where we explored fascinating local history. The museum’s president was there to share stories and answer questions, making the experience even more engaging. Later in the month, we headed to beautiful Okanagan Lake for a relaxing ride aboard the Heaven Can Wait pontoon boat. Accommodating six seniors at a time, the peaceful cruise gives everyone an opportunity to enjoy the fresh air, scenic views, and the calming beauty of the lake. It was the perfect way to slow down, unwind, and appreciate a beautiful summer day together.
July reminded us that even during the hottest days of summer, there are countless opportunities to stay active, build friendships, and create meaningful memories together. We can’t wait to see what adventures August has in store!
