The last time I went to a hockey game was in 2016 when Lumby became Hockeyville. Tim’s great nephew (his nephew’s son) had a game this past Sunday at the Lumby arena, we thought we would go in support of the younger Wilson. What a great game it turned out to be with the Young Lumby Stars winning 16-8.
I forgot how exciting the game of hockey can be whether it’s played by adults or kids. We were sitting near a hockey mom, she was loud, vocal and proud, as of course she should be. I thought to myself that if I had any kids, and they played hockey or other sports, I would probably be a sports mom just like that.
When my nephew was young he was in hockey in Ontario, I went to some of his games, I wasn’t the hockey mom, but the hockey aunt and I was just as loud, vocal, and proud as the hockey moms were. When my goddaughter used to play soccer in Kelowna, I went to every game and cheered her and her team on there just like the soccer moms.
When I was a kid my step dad or my cousin would take me to Maple Leaf Gardens to watch the hockey games there. I got to watch some of the great and best hockey players there were then. Some of you would of course remember the great names like Bobby Orr, Bobby Hull, Eddie Shack, (I remember shaking his very large hand) Gordie Howe, and others I got to see live. It was probably the most exciting thing in my life at that time going to the Maple Leaf Gardens to watch spectacular games.
What a blast I used to have watching the games live, they were just not exciting enough to watch them on tv. Now when watching the games on tv you can watch every movement with the playbacks making them easier and a bit more exciting watching them on the screen.
Tim and I have decided that we will check out a couple more games that his young great nephews (there are 2 of them both on the Lumby Stars Teams, different age groups) will be playing on a Sunday afternoon. The next one will be in Vernon, if we are not doing anything, it will be off to Vernon to watch the hockey games. I might see you there, or at some game in Lumby don’t forget to say hi.
